"FRUIT AND VEGETABLE GROWING " educational program
The history of the formation of the department is inextricably linked with the history of the university. Due to the activation of the fruit and vegetable industry and the creation of large specialized farms in the young Republic of Kazakhstan, there is a need for modern highly qualified personnel with higher education. Based on this, it was decided to open the Institute of Fruit Growing and Horticultural Specialization at the Kazakh Agricultural Institute, as well as the Department of Entomology and Phytopathology, later (in 1939) the latter was renamed the Department of Plant Protection.
Since 2018, the Department of Fruit and Vegetable Growing AND Nut Growing has been headed by Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aitbayev Temirzhan Yerkasovich.
The department has formed a team with great scientific and pedagogical potential. Specialists are trained by 1 academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 4 doctors, 6 candidates of Sciences, 7 PhD doctors and 8 masters, as well as foreign scientists. The academic degree of the teachers of the department is 70%, and the average age is 49 years.
Teaching staff, part-time teachers and teaching and support staff who implement master's and doctoral degree educational programs in the areas of "fruits", "vegetables", "grapes".
Currently, the teachers of the department actively use new information technologies and multimedia teaching tools in the educational process. Video presentations, educational films, and interactive teaching methods are demonstrated in the training sessions, allowing students to better assimilate educational material and consolidate knowledge. Various active methods are widely used: the method of problem storytelling, presentations, discussions, case stages, group work, the method of critical thinking, quizzes, business and role-playing games, the method of blitz polling, brainstorming, etc. Innovative learning technologies have been introduced, including all types of educational work (lectures, laboratory-practical, seminars, independent work of students, undergraduates and doctoral students) using a multimedia learning system displayed and controlled using interactive devices, which allows solving problems at a fundamentally new information level. Network technologies and resources of global networks are used. The innovative and pedagogical activity of the teaching staff of the department is based on the use of the resources of the electronic library of the University, the Republican International Electronic Library (RMEB).
Over the years, the teachers of the department have mastered new disciplines, expanded the laboratory base and strengthened the practical training of students. Textbooks on the main subjects taught in English, Russian and Kazakh have been developed and published.
The department has: an office for fruit growing, a laboratory for drying and working with vegetable seeds, a laboratory for storage and processing. These laboratories are equipped with modern and necessary equipment for conducting training sessions and research work.
The educational programs of bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees have 1 lecture hall, educational laboratories, 1 computer classroom with 20 computers for 20 seats, a specialized scientific and educational laboratory for conducting training sessions and scientific research.
On behalf of the rector of the university, in 2019, the Department of Fruit and vegetable growing and nut growing created an agrotechnological park in the direction of fruit and vegetable farming "Baibulak", where educational and practical classes, research studies of bachelors, undergraduates and doctoral students are conducted. Its tasks include: the use of innovative agrotechnologies in the system of large gardens, providing increased crop yields and increased labor productivity; adaptation and introduction of new highly productive varieties and hybrids of agricultural crops of domestic and foreign breeding; digitalization of agricultural processes; Dutch technology
An important area of the department's work was the development of academic mobility of students. The research work of PhD students is carried out by the teaching staff of the department together with Kazakhstani scientists and scientists from the CIS and foreign countries.
One of the areas of educational activity for the preparation of future specialists of a high level of education is educational work. The educational work of the department of fruit and vegetable and nut farming is aimed at the active participation of teaching staff in the process of student personality formation and has a socio-adaptive (preparing students for life in modern society) and career guidance (opening up opportunities for self-realization in the chosen direction of professional specialization) orientation.
The Department of Fruit and Vegetable Growing and Nut Growing at KazNAIU is a leader in the field of training agricultural specialists who ensure the development of agricultural science and economics in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is a constantly and balanced growing scientific and educational unit of the Faculty of Agrobiology of the Kazakh National Agrarian University, which conducts comprehensive theoretical and applied scientific research and expert developments and effectively coordinates the training of highly qualified and fundamentally trained specialists, researchers, analysts, teachers and other specialists in the field of agriculture.
"Plant protection and quarantine" educational program
In 1963, the Faculty of Plant Protection was opened at the Kazakh State Agricultural Institute and the departments of Entomology and Phytopathology began to function. In 1996, these departments were merged into a single one under the name "Plant Protection" during the transformation of the university. During this period, doctors of Sciences, professors made a great contribution to plant protection at the department: A.I.Petrov, A.S.Kharin, B.K.Kalymbetov, J.T.Dzhienbayev, I.A.Kostin, A.O.Sagitov and candidates of Sciences, associate professors – V.K.Matveeva, M.T.Kulikova, A.T.Tilmenbayev, V.F.Firsov, A.A.Almaniyazov, T.M.Seilkhanov, N.J.Ashikbayev, A.J.Agibayev, S.Yskak. In 2002-2004, the training of plant protection specialists was carried out in the context of the specialty "Agrochemistry and plant protection". In 2009, the specialty "Plant Protection and Quarantine" was restored in the new classifier and undergraduate, graduate and PhD students are being recruited.
Currently, plant protection and quarantine in Kazakhstan is considered as the most important industry ensuring the country's food and phytosanitary security. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has officially declared 2020 the International Year of Plant Health, which draws global attention to how plant health protection will help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment and accelerate economic development. 2 doctors of sciences, 16 candidates of sciences, 3 PhD doctors, 10 senior teachers, 6 assistant undergraduates of this profile take part in the training of plant protection and quarantine specialists. For a number of years (since 2016), specialists of the department have been conducting registration and production tests of new pesticides against pests, diseases and weeds in crop plantations in accordance with contracts with various foreign and domestic firms. Together with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (USA) in 2020. The curriculum has been developed and approved as part of the implementation of the curriculum for the preparation of bachelors, masters of science and doctors of Philosophy at KazNAIU.
