KazNARU Students Visit the Green Recycle Waste Sorting Complex
An educational tour was held at the waste sorting complex of Green Recycle LLP, located in the Alatau District of Almaty, for students of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU).
During the visit, participants were introduced to the company’s operations and the municipal solid waste management system. The head of the complex, Alexander Vladimirovich Gaevskiy, shared practical experience in the collection and sorting of non-hazardous waste and answered students’ questions.
Representing KazNARU were Maya Suyunchaliyeva, Leading Specialist of the Institute of Green and Sustainable Development, as well as students from the Faculty of Engineering Technologies and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zooengineering.
Green Recycle LLP was established on June 10, 2013. The company’s main activity is the collection of non-hazardous waste (OKED 38110). The enterprise plays an important role in the waste management system of the city of Almaty.
During the tour, company representatives reported that 1,500 to 1,700 tons of waste are delivered daily from the city to the waste sorting complex. After unloading, the waste is sent to manual sorting lines, where recyclable materials are extracted.
The sorting process includes the recovery of:
- paper and cardboard;
- plastic waste;
- polyethylene bags;
- textile waste;
- electronic waste;
- metal;
- glass.
Sorted fractions are sent for further recycling, helping to reduce the load on landfills and promote the development of separate waste collection. Residual waste that is not suitable for recycling is disposed of at landfills after sorting.
Such educational tours provide a clear understanding of waste management processes, raise environmental awareness among students, and highlight the importance of recycling secondary raw materials for the sustainable development of the city. The event concluded with a group photo.
