International Forum on Sustainable Development and Water Resources Management to Be Held at KazNARU

On February 25–26, 2026, a high-level international forum titled
“Sustainable Urban Development: Challenges and Scenarios for Water Resources Management” will be held in Almaty at KazNARU.

Official opening: February 25, 2026, at 09:30.

The forum will bring together representatives of government bodies, international experts, the scientific community, and industry organizations to discuss key issues of water security and sustainable urban infrastructure development. The event will serve as a platform for developing practical solutions aimed at improving water resource management efficiency amid climate change and increasing urban pressure.

The participation of city leadership in the opening ceremony highlights the strategic importance of the topic for Almaty and strengthens dialogue between academia, government institutions, and professional communities.

On the second day, a foresight session titled “Development Scenarios for Water Resources Management in the City of Almaty” will take place. The session will focus on modeling future solutions and developing expert-based development scenarios. Participants will elaborate applied recommendations to enhance the city’s water management system.

Relevant municipal departments, subordinate organizations, and specialists in water supply, utilities, infrastructure, and environmental management are invited to participate. Their practical expertise will be essential for designing realistic and implementable solutions.

The keynote speaker of the forum will be Professor Ali Torabi Haghighi, a renowned international expert in sustainable water resources management and urban climate adaptation. He represents the Finnish scientific school recognized as a global leader in water research and environmental sustainability and is ranked among the top 2% of the world’s most cited scientists in hydrology.

The forum will provide an opportunity to present advanced global approaches, strengthen international scientific cooperation, and define strategic directions for the development of Almaty’s water policy.
