YOUTH LEGAL LITERACY IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU) hosted an educational meeting with students on the topic “The New Constitution – the Legal Foundation of a Just Kazakhstan”, aimed at strengthening young people’s legal literacy.
The event focused on helping students understand the importance of the Constitution in the life of the state and society, expanding their knowledge of citizens’ fundamental rights and responsibilities, and promoting a strong culture of respect for the law.
The meeting was opened by Maqsat Imanbekov, Lead Specialist for Social and Legal Affairs at the Youth Affairs Department. He highlighted the relevance of the topic and emphasized that knowledge of the Constitution provides the foundation for every citizen to understand their rights and responsibilities.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the fundamental principles of the Constitution, human rights and freedoms, and the responsibilities of citizens. Particular attention was given to constitutional rights to education, employment, professional development, freedom of expression, equality before the law, and participation in public life.
Akmaral Kozhabekova, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Associate Professor, emphasized that knowledge of constitutional provisions is essential for citizens to protect their rights and responsibly fulfil their duties.
The participants also discussed the substance of the amendments and additions to the Constitution, the rule of law, mechanisms for protecting citizens’ rights, and the principles of a constitutional state. Particular attention was paid to compliance with the law, respect for the rights of others, and responsibility towards society.
The meeting continued in an open dialogue format. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and exchange views on the importance of constitutional rights in everyday life.
Such educational meetings contribute to strengthening young people’s legal knowledge, fostering respect for the law, and developing a responsible approach to civic life.
