KazNARU RECTOR PARTICIPATES IN PRESIDENT TOKAYEV’S MEETING WITH LEADERS OF GERMANY’S UNIVERSITIES AND RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS
On September 30, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met in Berlin with rectors of leading German universities and heads of research institutions. The meeting was attended by President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Board – Rector of KazNARU, Academician Akhylbek Kuryshbayev.
The meeting focused on prospects for further cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany in higher education and research. Particular attention was given to expanding joint educational and double-degree programmes, academic exchanges, collaborative research, and technology transfer.
Today, 45 Kazakhstani universities cooperate with approximately 100 German partners, while around 2,000 Kazakhstani students are studying in Germany. Kazakhstan is also home to more than 30 branches and partner offices of foreign universities.
President Tokayev emphasized that establishing Kazakhstan as a leading academic and research hub in Eurasia is among the country’s strategic priorities. He highlighted the importance of moving beyond the traditional model of sending students abroad and towards deeper cooperation focused on jointly creating knowledge, technologies, and research solutions.
Key areas of cooperation include expanding joint educational and double-degree programmes, increasing academic mobility for students and researchers, implementing collaborative research projects, and strengthening links between universities, science, and industry.
These priorities align closely with KazNARU’s development as a research university. A notable example of Kazakhstan-Germany academic and research cooperation is the partnership between KazNARU and Leibniz University Hannover. The university is currently hosting a joint scientific and educational programme involving students and master’s students from Leibniz University Hannover, focusing on the interrelationships between water, soil, vegetation, and land use.
KazNARU’s participation in high-level international academic dialogue creates new opportunities to expand cooperation with leading German universities and research institutions and to develop joint educational and scientific projects.
