On October 2, the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU) held a meeting with a delegation from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), led by President Xu Kun. Representatives of China Unicom International also took part in the visit.

The meeting was opened by First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board – Rector of KazNARU, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences and Professor Primkul Ibragimov. He emphasized the importance of integrating agricultural science with digital technologies. The parties discussed the potential for joint projects focused on introducing artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, data analytics and advanced communication technologies into agriculture.

The discussions covered academic mobility, student and faculty exchanges, joint research and applied projects, as well as the development of digital agronomy and educational technologies. The parties also identified areas for grant support for promising master’s student projects and the joint development of the Smart University model. The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between KazNARU and BUPT.

During the visit, the BUPT delegation familiarized itself with KazNARU’s research and educational infrastructure, research facilities and technological capabilities. Discussions with China Unicom International focused on potential cooperation in digital infrastructure, telecommunications, cloud technologies and the development of the university’s digital environment.

A key outcome of the meeting was the opening of the BUPT–KazNARU Joint Smart Agriculture Laboratory. The laboratory will serve as a practical platform for developing and testing digital technologies aimed at addressing specific challenges in the agricultural sector. Research will focus on the application of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, data analytics and advanced communication technologies in agriculture.

The laboratory will create opportunities to bring research developments into practical use, strengthen hands-on training for specialists and expand academic exchanges. The initiative will combine KazNARU’s expertise in agricultural science with BUPT’s capabilities in digital technologies, strengthening links between science, education and industry and creating a foundation for the digital transformation of the agricultural sector.
