A vibrant celebration of national equestrian sport at the Almaty hippodrome
МШ-25-01К and МШАТ-26-07К groups, accompanied by their group curator, Gulzat Gabitkyzy, attended the “Great Steppe Games” held at the Almaty Hippodrome. The visit provided the students with an opportunity not only to watch spectacular horse races but also to gain valuable practical experience related to horse breeding.
The students showed particular interest in flat racing. Observing the races allowed them to pay attention to the horses’ physical condition, conformation, movement patterns, speed qualities, as well as the professional skills of the jockeys.
An important part of the event was a professional seminar delivered by horse-breeding scholar Iskhan Kairat on the topic “Methods of Improving Horse Breeds and Enhancing Their Productive Qualities.” The seminar addressed important aspects of breeding improvement, the development of desirable breed and economically valuable traits, and the enhancement of productive qualities in horses.
For students studying animal husbandry and smart technologies in animal husbandry, participation in such events has significant professional value. It enables them to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience, broaden their professional outlook, and gain a deeper understanding of modern approaches to breeding and selection in horse breeding.
The event was also significant from the perspective of preserving national traditions. Equestrian sport occupies an important place in the cultural heritage of the Kazakh people, while contemporary horse competitions continue centuries-old traditions associated with horsemanship and horse breeding.
Participation in the “Great Steppe Games” provided the students with a meaningful and enriching experience that brought together national traditions, equestrian sport, and professional education. The knowledge and impressions gained during the event will contribute to strengthening the students’ interest in horse breeding and their further professional development in the field of animal husbandry.
