Model United Nations KazNARU — Kazakhstani youth learn diplomacy and global dialogue
On October 25, 2025, the UN Plaza hosted the latest event, KazNARU Mini Model UN 2025, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
Hundreds of students, young leaders, and faculty from various Almaty universities gathered to discuss key global challenges and the role of youth in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Model UN KazNARU has remained an important educational platform for several years, where participants learn the art of diplomacy and negotiation, and hone their public speaking and critical thinking skills. By simulating the work of real UN bodies, delegates explore the mechanisms of international relations, understand the value of compromise, and understand that dialogue is the foundation of sustainable peace. This year, special attention was paid to global cooperation, economic equality, and digital ethics in the age of artificial intelligence.
During the opening ceremony, Vlastimil Samek, representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Kazakhstan, emphasized the importance of the Model UN initiative for the future generation:
"Model United Nations is a unique tool that helps young people not only better understand how the UN system works but also feel part of the global world. Particularly in Central Asia, where it is important to strengthen dialogue between countries and peoples, such initiatives offer hope for a peaceful and sustainable future."
Discussions in three committees—General Assembly, ECOFIN, and ITU—allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of decisions being made at the international level and the competencies needed by modern leaders. Discussions and negotiation sessions helped students develop the ability to listen to others, negotiate, and balance interests—key skills in the era of global climate change, transitions to a green economy, the implementation of sustainable development programs, and the development of education for sustainable development.
Model UN KazNARU 2025 became a platform for Kazakhstan's youth to learn to speak the language of diplomacy and contribute to shaping a responsible and peaceful future. The energy, interest, and initiative of the participants demonstrated that a new generation of leaders is emerging in the country, ready to think globally and act locally for the sake of peace and development.
✨Youth for a Sustainable Future
Model UN KazNARU 2025 demonstrated that youth are becoming the driving force of positive change, uniting ideas, culture, and energy for the sake of peace and sustainable development.
Rafis Abazov, professor and vice-rector of KazNAIU, noted:
"The United Nations is not only the history of humanity's greatest achievements, but also a symbol of hope for peace and justice. Today, by engaging young people in global dialogue, we are investing in a future where everyone's voice will be heard—in the name of peace, development, and mutual understanding."
