Chaired by Vice-Rector for International Relations Rafis Abazov, the participants discussed the results of the work over the past academic year and approved an action plan for preparing a roadmap for the institute's work for 2025-2026. The focus is on Sievers apples, a unique species considered the ancestor of all modern apple varieties.
Key initiatives include organizing a lecture on Sievers apples (Malus sieversii) as part of the Green Week program, environmental education, knowledge exchange, promoting environmental sustainability, development, visiting a national park to analyze yields and collect seeds, and preparing a trial harvest. Particular attention is paid to the inventory of green spaces and the possibility of presenting the results in October 2025.
The working group also discussed prospects for cooperation with the Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Growing, student participation in field research and study visits, employability and opportunities, and the development of solutions for storing crops in winter.
KazNARU actively promotes scientific and educational initiatives aimed at preserving biodiversity and sustainable development. The work of the Kazakh-German Institute for Ecosystem Protection and Biodiversity demonstrates the importance of an interdisciplinary approach and international cooperation in solving environmental problems.
