International Model UN – KazNARU Conference Held on December 6, 2025

The International Model UN – KazNARU Conference took place on December 6, 2025, at the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU). This significant event was timed to coincide with the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations, the declaration of Almaty as a UN Regional Hub for Sustainable Development, and the 30th Anniversary of Turkmenistan's Neutrality.
The conference brought together over 200 participants, including students, volunteers, faculty, representatives from the diplomatic corps, UN agencies, and international students from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Nigeria, and Poland. High-profile guests included representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Consulates General of Turkmenistan, Poland, and Nigeria, the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC), the UN Volunteers Programme, as well as delegates from foreign and Kazakh universities.
The central theme of the conference was "The Path to Peace and Cooperation on Global Issues." Participants engaged with critical challenges on the international agenda, ranging from the regulation of Artificial Intelligence and the role of Private Military Companies to the protection of cultural heritage and global mental health issues affecting youth. Sessions were conducted in the format of actual UN committees, including the Security Council, General Assembly, UNESCO, WHO, and the Human Rights Council.
Model UN at KazNARU serves as a next-generation educational platform where students assume the roles of diplomats, advocate for their countries' interests, formulate resolutions, and seek compromises. Conference Secretary-General Kristina Sveridyuk emphasized that participation in such events fosters key skills essential for future careers—from public speaking to strategic thinking and teamwork, highlighting the profound impact Of Education on professional development.
Participants placed particular emphasis on the role of youth in achieving sustainable development. In his address, Vlastimil Samek, Representative of the UN Department of Global Communications, noted:

"The UN has always supported youth movements and volunteer initiatives. You—the young people—are the architects of the future of international relations and global cooperation. Your voice is important, and we are proud of your involvement in events like Model UN KazNARU."

The conference included not only debates but also valuable training workshops focused on negotiation, UN procedures, and resolution writing, facilitating vital knowledge exchange. Support was provided by faculty in international law and international relations, along with invited experts and UN representatives, promoting equality of access to diplomatic skills.

KazNARU’s Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Rafis Abazov, concluded by thanking all participants and inviting students to join the Model UN – KazNARU Club and reminded the words of the UN secretary general Ban Ki-Moon - “"There is no Plan B, because there is no Planet B!”. This initiative is envisioned as a dedicated space for ideas, diplomacy, and leadership, committed to developing a new generation of professionals ready for constructive international dialogue and engagement.
