VISIT BY THE DELEGATION FROM THE CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMISSION FOR ASIA AND THE PACIFIC

On September 25, KazNARU hosted a meeting with a delegation from the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. The meeting was attended by Mr. Qian Li, Central Asia Coordinator, National Program Officer, Center for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Mr. Cai Kong Wu, Professor, Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, China Agricultural University, and Ms. Li Xia Tang, Program Coordinator, Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization Center, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.                

Representing KazNARU were: Duman Imanmadi, Director of the Kazakhstan-China Center; Rafis Abazov, Vice Rector for International Relations; Abzal  Abdramanov, Head of the International Office; and faculty deans Lyazzat Aldibaeva, Meiram Arystanov, Dani Sarsekova, and Yerzhan Abildaev; Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Machine Building of the Faculty of Engineering Technologies Adilkhan Niyazbaev; and Maiya Suyunchaliyeva, Leading Specialist of the Institute of Green and Sustainable Development and Teaching Staff.

The meeting was opened with a welcome speech by the Vice-Rector for International Relations, R. Abazov. He spoke about the university's activities, shared its achievements and information about the centers and laboratories based at the university. He also spoke about the close relationship between Kazakhstan and China, noting that one of the priority areas is establishing cooperation in the field of international programs, scientific projects, student and faculty exchanges, academic experts, and creating jobs for new professions in the agricultural sector. He mentioned four key areas of cooperation:

- Close cooperation with the People's Republic of China in terms of development and creation of a center, educational programs, exchange, etc.

- Development of a sustainable university – sustainability is an important indicator confirming the extent to which a university supports programs related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

-        Support and development of international scientific projects

- Publication activity among scientists – writing and publishing articles in high-ranking journals.

He also mentioned that the world is facing unprecedented challenges. These include climate change, resource shortages, and population growth.  It is necessary to support the development of smart agriculture, apply the latest technologies in the field of artificial intelligence and equipment mechanization, and strengthen the influence of sustainable development in universities.

Later, Mr. Qian Li, Central Asia Coordinator and National Program Officer, mentioned the importance of this meeting. He said that sustainable mechanization is a key factor in every system and structure, and that this approach allows for the regulation of key aspects of agricultural development in China. The use of modern equipment allows many problems in agriculture to be solved, including those related to water resources.

This was followed by a discussion on the problem of water resources in the region and the extent to which the World Bank in China is helping to resolve such issues.

Next, Professor Gulmira Skabayeva of KazNARU spoke, sharing her experience of using the latest equipment and explaining that the university is actively learning from European universities. She also expressed interest in Chinese universities, mentioning her visit to Shihezi University in China.

Professor Dani Sarsekova also talked about what plants are grown, sharing her experience and talking about her work with Northwest University in China. Research projects, including projects with foreign partners, are being promoted that are directly aimed at solving problems related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This includes allocating grants, attracting external investment, and creating research centers focused on specific goals.

At the end, Duman Imanmadi, director of the Kazakhstan-China Center, also concluded his speech.

The final words of gratitude for further cooperation were spoken by Rafis Abazov, Vice-rector for international relations.

Employees of the International Office and the Institute for Green and Sustainable Development confirmed the importance of cooperation and shared their views on the prospects for the internationalization of education with the delegation representatives. 

At the closing ceremony, representatives of the International Office thanked the guests, offered words of encouragement, and proposed future collaboration.

The event was held with the support of the International Institute for Green and Sustainable Development at KazNARU and the International Office at KazNARU.
