Round Table “Shokan Ualikhanov — A Great Personality” Dedicated to the 180th Anniversary of His Birth
On November 28, 2025, a round table titled “Shokan Ualikhanov — A Great Personality” was held to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the birth of Shokan Ualikhanov. The event was organized by Acting Associate Professor of the Department of General Education Disciplines Amina Zhakipparkyzy Akhantaeva, Senior Lecturer Gulaziya Zhakipbarkyzy Akhantaeva, and staff members of the University Scientific Library. First-year students of the Faculties of Forestry and Land Resources and Veterinary Medicine and Zooengineering took part in the round table.
The purpose of the event was to widely promote the invaluable contribution of Shokan Ualikhanov to the science and culture of the Kazakh people, to shape the historical consciousness of the younger generation through a deeper understanding of his life and creative legacy, and to foster respect for science.
The round table was moderated by Candidate of Historical Sciences and Acting Associate Professor Amina Zhakipparkyzy Akhantaeva. The event was opened by the Deputy Director of the Scientific Library, Aigul Bolganbaikyzy Akshalova. In her speech, she noted:
“Today we have gathered for a round table dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the birth of the great Kazakh scholar, educator, ethnographer, traveler, and public figure Shokan Shyngysuly Ualikhanov. Shokan is a bright star of 19th-century science and culture, a unique personality who introduced Kazakh spirituality to the world. His scientific works, historical research, and valuable materials on the culture and customs of the peoples of Central Asia remain relevant to this day.”
After that, the students presented reports on various topics, highlighting different aspects of Sh. Ualikhanov’s life and work.

The round table was also attended by senior lecturers of the department Alden Nurakynuly Nurakynov and Gulaziya Zhakipbarkyzy, leading librarian of the Scientific Library Bazarkul Karipbaikyzy Madibaeva, and senior librarian Mayra Musakhanqyzy Nurelova. In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of discussing the rich heritage of Shokan Shyngysuly Ualikhanov and recognizing his personality from new perspectives. They noted that Shokan Ualikhanov was one of the most educated and progressive figures of the Kazakh steppe in the 19th century. Although he lived only 30 years, he left an indelible mark on several fields of science. His works on Kazakh history, ethnography, folklore, and Oriental studies have become a valuable contribution not only to Kazakh scholarship but also to world science.
The round table was concluded by Amina Zhakipparkyzy Akhantaeva, after which Orazkhan Sailaubek, a student of group VM-25-28, performed the kui “Erke Sylkym” by Abdіmomyń Zheldіbaev.
