Innovations in Water Resources Management: Expert from France Delivered a Lecture Series at the KazNARU International Summer School – 2026
The Faculty of "Water Resources and IT Technologies" is currently hosting the International Summer School – 2026, dedicated to modern approaches to water resources management, hydrological modeling, digital technologies, and the application of artificial intelligence in the water industry.
A special place in the program was occupied by a specialized educational module, “French-Kazakh Summer School on Remote Sensing”, focusing on the topic “Groundwater recharge assessment and hydrogeological time-series”.
From June 8 to June 10, 2026, a key speaker from France, Dr. Adrien Selles, a leading hydrogeologist from the French Geological Survey (BRGM), presented an in-depth lecture course and practical case studies to the summer school participants. Dr. Nicolas Baghdadi, Research Director at the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment of France (INRAE), also served as the French organizer of this event.
During his presentations, Dr. Adrien Selles shared advanced European expertise with young scientists, doctoral students, master's students, and undergraduates.
The primary focus of the lectures was on:
The application of Earth Remote Sensing (ERS) technologies for monitoring water bodies;
Methodologies for accurate assessment of groundwater recharge under a changing climate;
Tools for hydrogeological time-series analysis and forecasting the state of aquifers.
The presented methodologies sparked keen interest and active discussion among the participants of the international summer school, highlighting the high relevance of digital groundwater monitoring for the sustainable development of Kazakhstan's agricultural sector.
The module program concluded on June 10, 2026. All participants who completed this intensive course were solemnly awarded personalized international certificates of completion, confirming their new competencies in the fields of hydrogeology and remote sensing.
Holding such international events at KazNARU not only promotes the professional development of young domestic personnel but also strengthens the strategic scientific and educational partnership between Kazakhstan and France in the fields of ecology, water security, and high technologies.
