KazNARU SUPPORTS FAO'S PILOT PROJECT ON DIGITAL EARLY DISEASE DETECTION FOR GRAZING CATTLE IN KAZAKHSTAN
Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU) proudly participated in the FAO field validation mission under the global ELEVATE initiative, contributing to the implementation of innovative digital technologies for sustainable livestock production.
During field trials conducted on the high-altitude Assy Plateau and at livestock farms in the Zhambyl District of the Almaty Region, Kazakhstan became the first pilot country to test an automated early disease detection system for grazing cattle based on remote sensing of animal social behavior.
KazNARU provided scientific and organizational support throughout the field mission, working closely with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Republican Chamber of the Kazakh Whiteheaded Breed, and other national and international partners.
This initiative demonstrates the transformative potential of digital agriculture and precision livestock farming. The adoption of such technologies will enable earlier detection of animal diseases, strengthen veterinary surveillance, reduce economic losses for farmers, and enhance the resilience and sustainability of Kazakhstan’s livestock sector.
