KazNARU STUDENTS EXPLORE THE OPERATIONS OF AN ELECTRICAL SUBSTATION
On November 4, 2026, students of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU) visited a 110/10 kV electrical substation operated by Alatau Zharyk Company JSC (AZhC), where they gained firsthand insight into the operation of power equipment and electricity supply processes.
The educational field visit was organized by the Department of Energy and Electrical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering Technologies. Participants included second-year students enrolled in the 6B08702 – Agricultural Energy Supply and 6B07109 – Electrical Engineering programmes. The visit aimed to reinforce theoretical knowledge through practical exposure to industrial operations and develop students' professional skills.
During the visit, students explored the structure and operation of the electrical substation, including electricity reception, voltage transformation from 110 kV to 10 kV, and power distribution to consumers. Company specialists explained the operating principles of power transformers, indoor switchgear, switching devices, and other electrical equipment.
Particular attention was paid to relay protection and automation systems, equipment condition monitoring, dispatch control, and electrical safety requirements. Students gained practical insights into maintaining reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply, as well as protecting electrical equipment against short circuits and overloads. The visit was coordinated by doctoral students of the department, Zaure Sakhi and Dauren Sembay.
The field visit enabled students to connect their theoretical knowledge with real-world industrial processes and deepen their understanding of electrical power systems. Such practice-oriented activities strengthen cooperation between the university and industry while contributing to the training of qualified specialists capable of ensuring reliable energy supply for agricultural enterprises and facilities across the agro-industrial sector.
